The foothill settlement of Vlkolínec is a monument reserve of folk architecture and since 1993 it has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a remarkably well-preserved settlement, consisting of typical log buildings of the characteristic Central European type. The settlement represents a type of medieval village settlement with the wooden architecture of mountain and foothill areas, with an undisturbed construction of log houses in the middle of a landscape consisting of narrow strips of fields and pastures, protected from the north by the Sidorova massif.
